When Your Characters Won’t Behave

As a relatively new writer, I was taken aback completely when one of my principal characters first decided to flex his muscles. He wanted a new character, someone who could become his friend. And he got his wish. It changed the direction of the story, and in a good way. So for me, characters do indeed wield creative power, and I welcome it.
